'Finally it's legal': Cincinnati dispensary celebrates first recreational marijuana sale

THE WAY, WAITING IN LONG LINES TO BE ONE OF THE FIRST PEOPLE TO BUY MARIJUANA LEGALLY IN OHIO. THANKS FOR JOINING US AT 6:00. I’M SHEREE PAOLELLO AND I’M MIKE DARDIS TODAY, MARKING THE START OF RECREATIONAL WEED SALES STATEWIDE. AND IT LOOKS AS IF DEMAND IS ON THE HIGH SIDE FOR SURE. WLWT NEWS FIVE’S TODD -- LIVE RIGHT NOW IN NORWOOD, WHERE WORKERS AT THIS ONE DISPENSARY, THEY’RE STAYING PRETTY BUSY. TODD. YEAH, THERE’S A LOT GOING ON. MIKE AND CHARI NO QUESTION. BUSINESS HAS BEEN AND REMAINS BRISK HERE AT THE LANDING BEHIND ME. IT’S A MEDICAL MARIJUANA DISPENSARY THAT IS NOW CATERING TO NOT JUST MEDICAL PATIENTS, BUT ANYONE WHO’S 21 AND OLDER. YOU MENTIONED LONG LINES. THEY HAVE BEEN THE NORM TODAY AT A NUMBER OF DISPENSARIES WE VISITED, INCLUDING SUNNYSIDE AND COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP. THAT’S HERE IN HAMILTON COUNTY AND A SIMILAR SHOP IN MONROE, OHIO. VOTERS APPROVED THE SALE OF RECREATIONAL CANNABIS BY A SIGNIFICANT MARGIN LAST FALL, AND SINCE THEN, REGULATORS HAVE BEEN WORKING TO CREATE RULES GOVERNING WHAT IS EFFECTIVELY A WHOLE NEW INDUSTRY. TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY THAT DISPENSARIES WITH DUAL LICENSES HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SELL WEED TO BOTH MEDICAL AND NON-MEDICAL PATIENTS. HERE’S REACTION FROM ONE OF THE FIRST RECREATIONAL CUSTOMERS IN THE STATE, AND THE GM OF THE LANDING DISPENSARY HERE IN NORWOOD. I’M PUMPED. I’M EXCITED. FINALLY, IT’S LEGAL FOR RECREATIONAL. I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS DAY FOR A LONG TIME. TODAY HAS BEEN INSANE, TO BE HONEST. IT HAS BEEN NONSTOP SINCE WE OPENED, WHICH IS VERY EXCITING. IT’S WHAT WE ANTICIPATED. WE REALLY WANTED TO, UM, TAKE THE INITIATIVE AND MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE PREPARED TO SERVE EVERYBODY. AND WITH THIS AWESOME VOLUME THAT WE HAVE NOW, ACCORDING TO THE STATE AGENCY THAT REGULATES RECREATIONAL SALES OF MARIJUANA, THERE ARE EIGHT DUAL DISPENSARIES HERE IN HAMILTON COUNTY. BUT THAT NUMBER CHANGES THE FURTHER YOU MOVE AWAY FROM THE URBAN CORE. THEY ARE NO DISPENSARIES IN ADAMS COUNTY, ONE IN BROWN COUNTY AND TWO IN WARREN COUNTY REPO
